\nLast weekend we traveled down to Abe’s house in Guaymas\/San Carlos after work on Thursday. I have a new app for my phone that tracks our journey and gives statistics. I found it all very interesting. I turned it on when we hit the border, so it’s missing the first hour of travel from Tucson.<\/p>\n

Total Distance: 408.69 km (253.9 mi)
\nTotal Time: 4:19:33 (we stopped for gas and food)
\nMoving Time: 3:58:28
\nAverage Speed: 94.47 km\/h (58.7 mi\/h)
\nAverage Moving Speed: 102.83 km\/h (63.9 mi\/h)
\nMax Speed: 158.40 km\/h (98.4 mi\/h) (in the SUV even!)
\nMin Elevation: -32 m (-103 ft) (This was in Guaymas)
\nMax Elevation: 1356 m (4449 ft) (This was just South of Nogales)
\nElevation Gain: 606 m (1989 ft)
\nMax Grade: 6 %
\nMin Grade: -11 %<\/p>\n

Total travel time was about 5.5 hours. We can cut off about 30mins to an hour if we take one of the cars.<\/p>\n

Yun’s parents had arrived earlier in the day with her Uncle, Aunt, and two cousins. We didn’t do much but relax, read, and eat. That made for an ideal weekend getaway.<\/p>\n

Saturday was New Year’s Eve. The picture below is of our last sunset of 2010.<\/p>\n

Tucson was pretty cold when we left on Thursday – the weather on the beach was warm and sunny. The water wasn’t even too bad, but we didn’t get in. Perfect weather for reading in the hammock and eating carne asada from the bbq.<\/p>\n

We went to a really neat market on Saturday afternoon to buy the vegetables above along with all of the meat for the tacos. It was the first time I had been to this market and I was really surprised at how interesting and exotic it was. Surprisingly, I found a nice holster for my gun which I bought. Its surprising because guns are generally not allowed in Mexico.<\/p>\n

Meat was pretty cheap and we bought an enormous amount for dinner. The butchers even cut a few giant bones for Tila and Scout at no charge. They were thrilled. A week later and they still chew them constantly.<\/p>\n

We had a fun weekend and are hoping to get back within the next month. We may take the boat down next time and leave it there. I have added some other photos to the travel log.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
