Dog wash

We haven’t given the dogs a bath in quite some time. It is very nice outside today and so they finally got one. Yun made the shampoo from a recipe online. The dogs smell great.

Ice cream!

image

We got awesome Christmas present from Matt and Dana this year. It was an ice cream machine where we can make our own ice cream. This is all the more spectacular because the ice cream in Mexico is not very good. I am very excited to try this out.

New restaurant: George’s Town

image

We went to a new restaurant by our house today called George’s Town. It is near a number of restaurants we have frequented and mostly do not like. So we didn’t have high expectations for this place. However, as it turned out, the food was pretty good. It was mostly Western style American food. I had a giant pork leg that was spectacular. We will definitely be coming back to this place.

Clams in Empalme

We went to Empalme yesterday to buy some (a lot) of seafood before heading back to Hermosillo from Guaymas. On the way back, we stopped at a clam stand where Gab assured us we would enjoy the clams. Well, with a LOT of salsa, they’re not all that bad. They were incredibly cheap. About a dollar something for a dozen. I think I would have enjoyed them more if the lady preparing them looked even a little clean. Such was not the case.

Food storage

image

I bought a few hundred pounds of rice nearly 5 years ago. It seemed like a good idea at the time and I love rice. We’ve barely made a dent into our supply, but after so many years, it still tastes great. I store it in a mylar bag, in a food grade 5 gallon bucket, with a lid that twists on and off and has a rubber seal. The price of rice in large quantities is significantly lower than what you pay at the grocery store. I bought this jasmine rice at a specialty store in Tucson at $30 for 50 pounds. I bought a number of 50 pound bags from Costco for $16 a bag. Since we have a large pantry in our house now, it is no longer such an inconvenience to store the buckets.

My first harvest

We have neighbors here with enormous orange trees that branch on our property. As a result, we are able to enjoy some spectacular tasting oranges.
