We had the opportunity to visit the aquaduct here in Segovia today. It is an impressive thing to see.

Spanish grammar

image

Yun found a 1923 Spanish grammar book in a store and decided to buy it for $3 Euros. We found a nice remote place for some wine, snacks, and grammar review.

Paella

image

Had my first paella today. It wasn’t that good. I was disappointed. Still we had a nice view and some good drinks.

Spanish steak

image

Yesterday I had steak and french fries for lunch. Surprisingly, Spanish steak is not too bad. Also, a nice treat was that they brought tapas each time I ordered a beer.

La Granja

We arove to Segovia yesterday morning at 11am. After checking into our hotel we had a nice lunch near the town square.  We then departed for La Granja, a small town 20 minutes from Segovia. We took a cab so as to not waste time.

The purpose of the trip was to visit the king’s palace. It was rather impressive. We enjoyed touring the palace and the massive gardens behind it. There was a maze we wanted to try, but we didn’t have enough time.

Segovia

image

This is a picture of one of the main churches on our walk home last night. It was well lit up.

image

This is a picture of my dinner last night. It was a roasted baby pig. There was an excessive amount of meat in it would have been sufficient for two people to have eaten. Even so I did my best to complete it. Yes, that is the pig’s ear in the photo.

image

This is the same church as that picture above but this was taken as the Sun was setting and we were headed out to get dinner.

image

This is a photo that was taken at dinner.

This is another photo taken as the Sun was setting as we left our hotel to head out to dinner. Segovia is very pretty at this time of night. The Sun doesn’t actually set here until about 10 p.m. It’s very strange.

Legőn

Spain has a super lame law which prevents the sale of wine after 11pm. Coming from a country where dinner begins after 9pm, this seems very odd.

I learned this fun little fact tonight as we stopped at a small little grocer. Yun asked if they had wine. He asked what kind we wanted and then pulled back a curtain displaying a fine array of options. So strange. Given a similar stupid law in Mexico (I blame the Catholics), I asked if we were able to buy wine at this hour (just after midnight). I was told we could but he couldn’t sell me the wine. Very confusing. But nonetheless he put my bottle of choice in a bag and told me to keep it hidden. So apparently you can buy wine after midnight, it just can’t be sold.

Wine is so incredibly cheap here and it’s really good!

Anniversary dinner

Yun and I had a really special dinner last night at a restaurant called El Alquimista to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary.

The food and wine were really amazing and we enjoyed it quite a lot. It was a memorable evening.
