Exercise nearly kills me

cactus bike ride

Went to bed late last night and woke up at 5am his morning to go bike riding with some friends. I might have got about 3 hours sleep. So needless to say, I felt like death at the beginning of the ride.

I met up with four other guys in the south of the city for a desert ride. Quite a different experience than the exhausting (but MUCH easier) city ride I did on Monday. Far more hills and far too much sand. Sand is probably the most miserable of experiences on a bike. There were multiple instances where I thought I was going to throw up from exhaustion. So sad. So very sad.

I was asked if I wanted to return for a ride tonight at 5pm. Even if I didn’t have other plans, there’s no way my body could physically endure another ride today. I had a really hard time keeping up with everyone today and I’m fairly certain someone would have to carry me home if I tried again tonight. So instead I committed to doing it again tomorrow. I hope it gets easier.

When I was in Kansas (and nearly 15 years younger), I was able to ride 30-50 miles a day with little effort (at least, that’s how I remember it). So 10 miles doesn’t seem like much today. But at least it’s a start and I am hopeful that each time will get a little easier.
