Spanish Studies: May 13, 2014

I have switched to doing an hour and a half this week for my Spanish studies. So far this seems like a good choice. I may increase to two hours in the near future.

This week I am working on simple past tense and imperfect past tense (preterito and imperfecto). As of today, I feel like I am starting to get it and to be able to properly distinguish between the two in application. My challenge is in being able to switch back and forth between the two. I can memorize the rules for each, but I cannot switch back and forth easily because it seems the rules might be stored in different places in my head.

In addition to working on past tense, I’ve been reading short stories to practice my pronunciation and then working my way through the stories to make lists of new vocabulary.

I found a nice site online to make flashcards for my vocabulary. Not only does it make flashcards, it incorporates my vocabulary into word games and other things. This is a helpful way to supplement how I’ve been trying to absorb new words.

Today my maestra brought some short audio files to practice listening comprehension. I was able to do pretty with a couple, but struggled horribly with the third. I need a lot of work in this area.
