Miraflores, Peru

Yunuen and I are in an internet cafe in Miraflores…something like 30 cents an hour to use. We woke up fairly early this morning to have our “breakfast” at our hotel and then went to the shopping area we were at last night. We went to a travel agent to buy our plane tickets to Cuzco. It was really nice to find the prices to be significantly less than what we were finding online and buying them locally meant we wouldn´t have to pay the high taxes. We have spent most of the day walking around Miraflores. We went to some parks and saw a lot of hang gliders. It is very beautiful here, but quite cold (mostly in the 50s). We were ridiculously cold last night, so we had to get some extra blankets for our room (the rooms aren´t heated here).

We had lunch about 30 mins ago at Restaurante Pericos. I had papas a la huancaina which was cold potatos with a strange yellow sauce and a black olive. For my main meal, I had a slab of beef, on top of rice, with a egg on top and a cooked banana on top of the egg, with french fries on the side. Yunuen had corn soup and a similar main dish. She loved the banana.

We have to be at the airport at 4am tomorrow morning which is going to be a tad difficult. Fortunately, we´ll be in Cuzo early and will be able to spend the entire day relaxing, trying to get used to the elevation (nearly 12,000 ft above sea level). We went to a pharmacy just a few minutes ago and bought some drugs that allege to help with altitude sickness. The pills are called Sorojchi pills and are from Bolivia. We have been told that when we arrive at the orphange we are staying at in Cuzco they will be giving us coca leaf tea which is likewise suppose to help with altitude sickness.

As I didn´t bring my cable to upload pictures, I won´t be able to do that now, but perhaps later tonight….Sorpresa
