Econatura

We are at Econatura today with Yun’s family.  It is mostly unbearably hot but I’m sitting in the shade next to a large misting fan. We got here around 8 a.m. this morning just in time to milk a cow and visit some other farm animals.

We played four games of volleyball later. Abe and I won the first two and lost the second two. This destroyed me and I nearly died. I’m not used to exercise, especially in the hot sun.

youtube growth

I have multiple channels now on youtube which I am using to generate income. To my surprise, things are going pretty well. I posted this image last November 15th of some stats on my main channel:

And now 8 months later (245 days to be precise), the channel has grown by 500% daily views (1000 to 6000).

At my current rate, I am not yielding much (roughly 5k a year), but it’s enough to pay for one good vacation a year! But at the rate in which it is growing, maybe it won’t be long before the main channel can yield that monthly! If I could maintain that 500% growth over the course of another 8 months, I’d be at 30,000 daily views (or roughly $2500-3000/monthly). Couple that with my other channels which are currently growing at a similar rate, it might not be long before we can seasonally relocate to Montenegro!

Orlando and Ana’s wedding

A few weeks back we had the pleasure of celebrating the marriage of Orlando and Ana. This is a young couple that Yun and I have been mentoring independently for some time now (long before they knew each other). We then did their premarital counseling and hope to continue meeting with them as time goes on.

They had a great wedding ceremony and even better reception. Here is a video capturing some of my sweet moves:

jenga and other fun games

20170707_205815

We had some friends and young people from church over to the house last night to play some games and spend some time together. We recently acquired Balderdash and I was excited to play that, but that game requires native-level English skills, so despite the abundance of quasi-English speakers, there was no way that was going to work.

Instead, we settled on Jenga and Pictionary. Those were both quite fun.

Here’s a video of Nadia destroying the Jenga tower:

Bowling

Check that high score. We went bowling with some of the younger people from our church on Wednesday evening. I don’t do a lot of bowling in my life and therefore generally don’t expect to get over 100 points. But clearly, I had some skills.

Steak fast ends

We spent the last couple days in Tucson as we had come up to pick up our new car (and new camera!). Our steak tradition had been paused (for a week) but that ended last night with some amazing t-bones.

We did a nebiolo tasting on Thursday evening. So many good wines and surprisingly the Mexican bottle I brought did pretty good.

Anniversary number 12

Yun and I celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary a couple weekends back. We were looking for a ranch somewhere within an hour or so of town and settled on a place called Econatura. Not the most affordable place, but it turned out to be a really great option. Also it was only about 40 minutes from the house.

Since it was a Sunday evening most of the resort was entirely vacant which left the place nearly entirely to ourselves. Sunday night the staff prepared a fire for us outside of our Cabanya and brought us marshmallows to roast and pina coladas to drink.

Monday morning we awoke around 8 to go and learn how to milk cows. That was certainly a unique experience. Probably not one I’ll want to repeat, but in the event of an emergency I now know how to milk a cow.

On Sunday evening I thought it would be a neat idea to make an audio recording of ourselves asking each other various questions related to the last 14 years together and what we think than future might hold. Recording is a little over an hour long and I need to put it somewhere so that in five to 10 years I’ll be able to find it and we can listen to it together.

Last Saturday we went to San Pedro with the younger people from our church to join another church here in town for a day of activities.

200km north of Kino – Desert Journey 2016

20161022_091941

My phone has nearly 15gb in photos, so I as I was cleaning them off today, I came across some old photos. This was from a trip I took with my friend Marco from church. We took his Razor along with this group into the remote Sonoran Desert, 200km north of Kino to a small pueblo called Puerto Libertad.

We came across a beach a hundred miles away from anything resembling civilization where we found dozens of shark heads on the beach, mostly hammer head sharks. Apparently there’s an indigenous tribe in the area that fishes the area and does something with them.

This was a fun trip for sure and something I could get into if I had an extra $30k for a Polaris or Razor. But since I don’t, I’ll just have to wait for invitations to join others.
