Off to Queretaro through GDL

We are on a flight from Hermosillo to Guadalajara at the moment. We are planning to head to Queretaro for the week. Maybe find a new city to call home.

We started watching Survivor Season 16. Good stuff. I ordered a cerveza. Pretty excited about that. But first a bathroom break. Then back to my seat. Here she is waiting for me.

Yun put my beer on my seat. That was nice. I didn’t see it, so I sat on it and crushed it and it sprayed all over the place. What a mess. And now it’s gone.

Camping!

We went camping last week with some neighbors. We headed up to Tucson on Thursday for some steak and potato tradition at the McReynolds house. As always, it was glorious.

We met our friends for breakfast on Friday morning in Tucson and then headed up to Pinetop which was roughly four hours further north. It is a beautiful drive.

Camping was fun, but it was freezing. Our friends have four little boys and they brought some other friends that had a couple of kids of their own. So basically, a lot of kids. But still, we had a lot of fun and it was great to get to know our neighbors Yrem and Heidi.

San Carlos heat

We took 17 younger people from church to SC last weekend. We departed HMO shortly after 7am and arrived at Nacapule Canyon around 9am. Despite the early hour, it was brutally hot. We hikedd for a couple hours and then spent the rest of the day at the beach.

Which was fun as usual but it was so extremely hot that was difficult to spend much time under the sun. Fortunately we had a number of tents. The water temperature was also uncomfortably hot. So needless to say I was burnt to a crisp.

Mexican pothole

Every year, at nearly the exact location, these “potholes” (sink holes really) appear near our house. They are 10 to 15 feet deep and sometimes as much as 30 feet wide. In other words they’re extremely dangerous. Yet every year the local government does some sort of temporary repair to get them through another year. This temporary repair generally takes one to two months to complete.

The problem is that they built this road on a wash. So when the monsoons come the foundation which these roads are built on are washed away and they begin to collapse.

Wedding

We went to Sergio and Nadia’s wedding on Saturday. It was a quite a fancy affair and most certainly the nicest wedding we’ve experienced in Mexico.

Paws destoyed

Mr. Scout played with a ball last night on the street and the result was devastating to his paws. The pads on his paws were nearly rubbed off on every paw. So today he is a lot of pain.

Jeep repairs!

Today was an exciting day for the Jeep. A couple weeks ago I took it into a shop to have an alarm installed and a new stereo and speakers. The shop was a catastrophe. I had to take the Jeep back a number of times because of problems in the installation of the alarm and later the speakers.

A couple days ago the passenger side door stopped working. Rather than take it back a fourth time to the shop I decided to fix it myself. So today I had Asael over to work around the house, which included work on the Jeep. He was not only able to repair the problem with the door, but he also was able to get my air conditioning working again. This is an incredible thing given how unbearably hot it’s been recently.

Cistern and water pressure

About a week ago we started to experience problems with water pressure in the house. As it turns out, the water pressure from the city is insufficient. So homes here have a water pressure tank that is used to compensate. It consists of a tank in the backyard and a pump at the bottom of the cistern under our carport.

As you can see from the close up the top of the water pump blew off and ultimately destroyed its ability to pump water. Generally one  would expect more than one year on a pump given this is a brand new house, but it appears as though they installed the very cheapest pump one could buy. So now we wait until Thursday or Friday to have it replaced and resume our life with normal water pressure.
