Yuccas

image

We had some friends over on Tuesday to hang out at the pool. The water is pretty nice, but a few degrees warmer would be even better. After a day at the pool we went out to eat at what is becoming one of our favorite places: Las Yuccas. So good.

Lumber store

image

Went to the lumber store today with Asael as I am having him build me a display. This was my first lumber store in Mexico. Wood is rather rare here and as such is about twice the price of what you would pay in the US. But one nice thing is that they will cut the wood to the dimensions you desire. So I had them make all of the cuts for the display and so we only need to assemble them.

Gardena

image

I planted some gardenias a week ago. Ive had a hard time in the past keepong them alive. This was mostly due to the alkaline soil in Tucson. This time I put them in a planter and fertilized immediately. They seem to be doing great.

Bowling

image

Yun went bowling the other day with some of the younger people at our church. I didn’t go because my foot has been a lot of pain since my little accident involving the scaffolding in my living room. She says she had a lot of fun. Maybe next time I’ll go.

Always watching

image

We have a lot of owls in our neighborhood. I see them every night. Usually on the edge of the roofs on our street. Last week I started noticing them during the day as well. I had one in front of the house just watching us nearly the entire day.

Cilantro and spinach

image

I planted some spinach and cilantro today in these small containers. I chose these two as others have grown them in the vertical planters. I’m not so sure about the cilantro because of the height of the mature plant, but others allege that they have done so successfully so I will try as well. The package claims 8 to 12 days until germination. So hopefully I will have completed all of the planters in time for them to be transplanted.

Ceiling fans

image

Finally today we were able to get the two ceiling fans in the main area of the house installed. It was no small task.

We needed to find four foot 3/4 inch pipe to use as an extension. Holes were drilled in them and then they were painted to match the fan. Then the wiring of the fans needed to be extended as the wires they came with where not near long enough.

The biggest challenge was finding a way to get to the ceiling. They are pretty high and no ladder we could find was tall enough. Fortunately, Gabriel has a construction crew with equipment at his house, so were able to borrow some scaffolding. Putting it together was a bit of a nightmare.

So now we have finished the most intimidating of tasks. All that is left is a little lanacaping in the back.

Cherry tomatoes

image

Despite numerous transplants, this tomato plant is still going strong. Recently I relocated it to the roof of our new house. I think the full Sun has done it well. Unfortunately, none of the other plants survived. I think this was mostly due to the small pots I was using and the delays in transplanting them to larger pots.
