busted

Jeff and Beth came over for dinner tonight with Krystal for our Spanish lesson-night dinner. It was a lot of fun and the food was great. Jeff and Beth have recently purchased a house and have done a lot of remodeling, so we were a little excited to share some of the ideas we had for our new house. That led us to takingĀ  a drive to the house so Jeff and Beth could see it. As the electricity is turned off, we brought our flashlights.

About 15-30 mins after we got there we began to hear the police helicopter flying around the neighborhood. Never a good sign. Eventually I went outside to take a look to see where the helicopter was searching and noticed a couple police cars driving down the street with their lights off and heading towards me. I thought to myself, “huh, look at that, not something you see everyday.” The next thing I noticed was the officers next to the car all had their guns drawn and pointed at me commanding me to raise my hands. This I did. Apparently one of the neighbors had seen us in the house and had called the police. This prompted 5 or so cop cars to respond along with the helicopter and a few canine units.

We explained the situation and I was grateful that the police were so quick to respond to a neighbors concern. I just had not anticipated that being a concern when we went to show Jeff and Beth the house tonight. I suspect we won’t be making late night trips with flashlights any time in the near future.

We’re happy the neighbors called the police and hopefully they’ll do it again in the future. there are some additional security features we want to add as well. 3M has a plastic coating that can be added to windows and I am told it cannot be seen, but makes it very difficult to break through a window.
