San Carlos May 2007

Yunuen, Matt, Dana, and I traveled down to San Carlos over Memorial Day weekend. We ended up staying at a condo that we do not normally stay at, but it was a last minute decision to go and thus our options were severely limited. We were at least on the water and had miles of decent beach. We stopped in Hermosillo on our trip down for dinner and I had some tasty chille rellenos. We found some really great places to snorkle and saw lots of diverse sea life; such as, sea urchins, star fish, sting rays, crabs, angel fish, and puffer fish. Matt was actually stung by a jelly fish a couple times. There weren’t that many jelly fish on our first day in the water, but as seems to be typical, there are always hundreds of jelly fish on our last day. Surprisngly, the water temperature was excellent for this time of year – somewhere high 70s low 80s. I collected a huge pile of old worn, bright white shells for a decoration for the house, which looks really cool. Yunuen and Dana made enchiladas on our second night and Matt and I did most of the work (at least from our perspective) for the carne asada we grilled on our third night. Yunuen and Dana learned to play Spades on this trip so we had a lot of fun with that. Out of sympathy, Yunuen and I allowed ourselves to be beaten in the first set, but decimated the Mcreynolds clan in the second round (540 to 510). Team Jankowski is preparing for the next round in Ireland when the Mcreynolds relocate there in the next few months.

Here’s a photo of one location we did some snorkeling:

  1. Matt says:

I have to dispute your recollection of the spades result. I recall the first game (which we won) being a rather shameful showing by your team and the second being a nail bitter and after reviewing the rules I’m convince it we could have taken both quite easily had we been scoring correctly. It was a fun trip. It was good to get away to the beach one last time before we are FORCED to visit European beaches and cities for vacation.
